Gerber LMF II ASEK - Review
Gerber LMF II ASEK - Full Review
Congratulations!!! You get “man points” for even considering the Gerber LMF II ASEK survival knife. Great job!
The LMF II ASEK is stuffed full of features most of us will never need... but then again you never know.
Survival is all about being prepared for the unexpected. And unexpected for you might mean needing to extract yourself out of an aircraft, escape the capture of hostiles behind enemy lines (who are trying to track you with infra red goggles) while you survive the brutal elements with your wit with one mighty ally... that’s right... Your LMF II ASEK survival knife.
Yeah, so what does ASEK stand for anyway?
Well, I’m glad you asked.
The meaning of ASEK is hotly disputed. Some say it means, Aviation Support Element, Kaneohe (Kaneohe?... which is in Hawaii). Others say it stands for Aircrew Survival Egress Knife. I tend to believe the latter.
Regardless of where your vote lies, there is no doubt, the Gerber LMF II ASEK survival knife was designed to military specs with fighter pilots in mind.
Based on the same troop-tested design as the LMF II Survival and Infantry knives, the LMF II ASEK survival knife sports a few upgrades from the LMF II Survival.
First, it comes in foliage green color and is said by some to be specially coated to resist infra red detection, although Gerber is not stating this on there website.
The Gerber LMF II ASEK survival knife comes with a cool safety knife AND a strap cutter. I presume that this is included so that a downed fighter pilot can safely cut his seat straps.
But seriously, the Gerber LMF II ASEK survival knife could also save your life in a car accident. You could use the strap cutter to get yourself and your passengers out of your seat belts Then you could use the pointed butt end of the knife to obliterate your windshield so you could safely escape.
Several owners report keeping a Gerber LMF II survival knife in their vehicles.
But be careful. If you forget about the Gerber LMF II ASEK knife that you have stashed in your mini van when you take your family on vacation to Niagara Falls, the Canadian customs officer is going to smell it a mile away and take it. He may also impound your van for a day or two. You will cry. So don’t let this happen. Okay?
All right. So now that you know for sure the Gerber LMF II ASEK is the survival knife for you, I have some bad news. This survival knife is getting hard to find.
Many merchants are saying that this survival knife is discontinued. But if you hurry, I’ll bet you can still find a Gerber LMF II ASEK.
As for me, I think they are just teasing us. Hey, Gerber still has the LMF II ASEK survival knife listed on their web site as of this writing. So what if they took the retail price down? I’m holding out. And if I can get a few others to join me, I may even protest.
The Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife is Based on the ASEK Design
All joking aside, Gerber ASEK is most likely out of stock as their companion, the green Gerber Infantry knife is also in short supply as of the writing of this article.
Seriously though... this is a really great knife. And remember, just the sight of a Gerber ASEK survival knife is enough to make an would-be burglar abort his plans and go running.
Plus, where else can you get a virtually indestructible, military-spec, survival knife in such a manly shade of green, made by Gerber, in the USA, all for around $100 bucks?
The Gerber LMF II ASEK survival knife is lean. It's mean. It's a stud of a cutting machine.
If by some chance you can’t find a Gerber LMF II ASEK knife around. Go for the Gerber LMF II Survival knife. You won’t be disappointed. Well, unless you hate coyote brown.
